The Main Distribution Board is the primary low-voltage switchboard at the source of an installation. It receives power from the utility transformer or generator and distributes it to all sub-boards, motor control centres, and major loads in a building or industrial facility.

An MDB built around Schneider Electric's PrismaSeT or Blokset platform houses MasterPact NW/MTZ and EasyPact MVS air circuit breakers with ComPact NS/NSX and EasyPact CVS moulded-case breakers, with full metering and protection coordination.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Main Distribution Board (MDB)?

The MDB is the primary low-voltage switchboard at the source of an installation. It receives power from the utility transformer or generator and distributes it to all sub-boards, motor control centres, and major loads in a building or industrial facility.

What bus rating and segregation does NLC's MDB support?

The MDB supports up to a 6300 A bus rating, with Form 2 to Form 4 segregation per IEC 61439.

Which Schneider Electric platforms are NLC's MDBs built on?

They are built around Schneider Electric's PrismaSeT or Blokset platform, housing MasterPact NW/MTZ and EasyPact MVS air circuit breakers with ComPact NS/NSX and EasyPact CVS moulded-case breakers, plus full metering and protection coordination.

What protection and metering features does the MDB offer?

It provides incoming and outgoing ACB / MCCB protection, full power metering and energy monitoring, plus optional earth-fault and arc-flash protection.

Where are NLC's Main Distribution Boards typically used?

Typical applications include commercial buildings, hospitals and hotels; industrial plants and factories; data centres and critical facilities; and government and institutional projects.

Are NLC's MDBs built and tested to IEC 61439?

Yes. The boards are built with Form 2 to Form 4 segregation per IEC 61439, the standard for low-voltage switchgear and controlgear assemblies.

Can earth-fault and arc-flash protection be added to the MDB?

Yes. Earth-fault and arc-flash protection are available as options, alongside incoming and outgoing ACB / MCCB protection and full power metering and energy monitoring.

How do I request a configured MDB from NLC?

Send us your single-line diagram and project specifications. Our power engineers will respond with a configured proposal based on the Schneider Electric PrismaSeT, Blokset, MasterPact NW/MTZ, EasyPact MVS, ComPact NS/NSX, and EasyPact CVS ranges.
